Meet Carmen
Carmen is a living piece of European heritage — a 300-year-old sourdough starter passed down through generations in my family's village in Spain.
Fed daily for centuries, Carmen carries the same vibrant cultures that nourished my ancestors and connected families around the table generation after generation.
Carmen was gifted to me by my grandmother's dear friend, now 86 years old, who still bakes bread alongside her grandsons in our ancestral village. For generations, Carmen has been fed only stone-ground flour and spring water using traditional methods that have stood the test of time.
The flour used to feed Carmen comes from the same type of traditionally grown, stone-milled flour that inspired the creation of Stone & Grains — simple ingredients, time-honored practices, and a deep respect for where our food comes from.
Named after my beloved abuela, Carmen is more than a sourdough starter. She is a connection to family, tradition, and the generations of bakers who came before us.
Bringing Carmen into your kitchen means becoming part of that story and continuing a tradition that has been shared around family tables for over 300 years.
